Elena Xausa's 'Coming Home' at Bassano Civic Museums

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Bassano Civic Museums are hosting 'Elena Xausa. Coming Home', a solo exhibition running until October 10, 2021, at the Galleria Civica. Curated by Melania Gazzotti, the show features over seventy works including prints, drawings, and sculptures spanning the Italian illustrator's first decade of her career. Born in 1984 in Marostica, Xausa has worked in Venice, Berlin, Milan, and New York, creating illustrations for The New Yorker, The New York Times, Die Zeit, Monocle, and Rolling Stone. Her style combines essential forms and solid colors, drawing from fashion, design, pop culture, and contemporary art. The exhibition is part of the city's celebrations for the completion of the long restoration of the Ponte Vecchio, also known as 'Ponte degli Alpini'. Mayor Elena Pavan stated that a civic museum's role is to support local creative expressions. A new series, 'Futuro remoto', depicts the restored bridge in a tripartite representation linking past, present, and future. Curator Gazzotti noted that Xausa's drawing instinctually represents the world, and she sometimes amplifies narrative power through animation, as seen in her GIFs for The New York Times crossword page.
