Elena Sorokina Curates Russia Redux #1 at Schroeder Romero Gallery as Critical Response to Guggenheim's RUSSIA!

From 17 September to 17 October 2005, the Schroeder Romero Gallery in New York City hosted Russia Redux #1, curated by Elena Sorokina. This exhibition, alongside Enemy Image at Momenta Gallery, served as a response to the Guggenheim Museum's RUSSIA! exhibit, delving into themes of post-Soviet identity and political awareness. Dmitry Gutov contributed a video about philosopher Mikhail Lifshitz, while Yevgeniy Fiks displayed Factory Moments, a series of photographs featuring Russian sex workers. An audio piece was presented by Tsaplya (Olga Egoroza), and Elena Kovylina's performance video illustrated Russian anxieties. Other participating artists included Konstantine Bokhorov, Taras Polataiko, Anatoly Osmolovsky, Dmitry Vilensky, Gluklya, Alina and Jeff Bliumis, and David Ter-Oganyan/Aleksandr Korneev, highlighting art's political significance and challenging Western perceptions of post-communist Russia.
