Elena Mazzi's 'Atlante Energetico' Concludes at Spinola Banna Foundation

The first edition of the joint residency between GAM Torino and Fondazione Spinola Banna has concluded with an exhibition titled 'Atlante Energetico' by artist Elena Mazzi. The project, which spanned eight months of workshops, meetings, and performances, opened at the Spinola Banna Foundation in Poirino, surrounded by agricultural fields near Turin. Mazzi took an expansive approach to the theme of energy, starting from the rice fields of Piedmont and building an open dialogue with workshop participants, invited guests, institutions, and the museum public. The five resident artists—Paola Pasquaretta, Nadia Pugliese, Fabio Roncato, Silvia Rossi, and Chiara Sgaramella—each engaged with landscape and nature in interdisciplinary ways. Roncato created sculptures in beeswax modeled after the movement of irrigation canals in Vercelli, reflecting human control over nature. Sgaramella's mobile archive includes drawings, recordings, books, and maps comparing Vercelli and Valencia. Rossi used drawing to convey properties of different rice varieties. Pasquaretta produced an artist's book, while Pugliese layered 19th-century US rice cultivation manuals with contemporary images of Vercelli, featuring Silvana Mangano from the 1949 film 'Bitter Rice'.
