Elena Filipovic Curates Satellite Program at Jeu de Paume

Elena Filipovic, associate curator at Wiels Contemporary Art Centre in Brussels, has curated the first two exhibitions of the Satellite program at Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume in Paris. The program, initiated by Marta Gili, invites young artists who have not yet exhibited in Paris to create new productions. The first exhibition featured British artist Tris Vonna-Michell, whose work on avant-garde poet Henri Chopin used photocopies, found objects, and sound to contrast with the hypervisual Fellini and Vezzoli exhibitions upstairs. The second exhibition, by Mathilde Rosier, runs until June 6. Filipovic selected artists for their recurrent thematic preoccupations rather than aesthetic unity. The program also includes Klara Liden and Tomo Savic-Gecan, whose project will create a copy of the exhibition space at Jeu de Paume to be installed at Kunsthalle Bergen in Norway, linking the two institutions. Satellite exhibitions occupy two basement spaces and interstitial areas like the bookstore and café. Filipovic emphasizes that the program aims to offer a radical contrast to the main exhibitions and engage in critical dialogue with the institution.
