Elena Filipovic Appointed Director of Kunstmuseum Basel
Elena Filipovic has been appointed as the new director of Kunstmuseum Basel, taking over from Josef Helfenstein. This decision, which received unanimous support from the museum's committees, was sanctioned by Beat Jans, the President of the Government of the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Currently, Filipovic is the director and head curator at Kunsthalle Basel, where she has curated more than 60 exhibitions since 2014, featuring artists like Michael Armitage, Matthew Angelo Harrison, and Anne Imhof, alongside group shows such as Ungestalt (2017) and INFORMATION (Today) (2021). Before this, she was a senior curator at WIELS in Brussels from 2008 to 2014. Filipovic will officially start her new position in June 2024.
