Elena Filipovic Appointed Director of Kunsthalle Basel
Elena Filipovic will lead Kunsthalle Basel as its new director, succeeding Adam Szymczyk. Szymczyk departed to organize the upcoming Documenta exhibition. Currently serving as senior curator at Brussels' WIELS Centre of Contemporary Art, Filipovic was chosen from 150 candidates by a selection committee. Martin Hatebur, president of the Basler Kunstverein, chaired this committee. In 2008, Filipovic co-directed the 5th Berlin Biennale with Szymczyk. Born in Los Angeles, she appeared on ArtReview's Power 100 list in 2011 and 2012, ranking 89th and 68th respectively.
