Elena Bellantoni's 'The Highlighter' exposes sexist advertising in Rome
Italian artist Elena Bellantoni presented 'The Highlighter' in Rome until March 27, 2018, as part of the project 'Una Vetrina' and the series 'Catalogue de Femmes'. The work critiques the use of women's bodies in advertising by displaying photocopies of ads with fluorescent pink and yellow highlights. The series, curated by Benedetta Carpi de Resmini and in collaboration with The Independent at MAXXI, focuses on the female body. Bellantoni collected images from global brands to local flyers, aiming to reveal normalized objectification. The project also includes a video and masks of a wolf and fox. Concurrently, Bellantoni launched 'Il Coro' with Wunderbar Cultural Projects, a female-focused series at Villa Torlonia running until June, featuring four artists and readings of texts by Steinbeck, Prunetti, Mordenti, and Clément. The series is produced by Bartolini/Baronio and 369gradi.
