Elena Bellantoni Publishes Artist Survival Manual 'Parole Passeggere'

publication · 2026-04-27

Artist Elena Bellantoni has released a new book titled 'Parole Passeggere' (Passing Words), published by Castelvecchi in the series Fuoriuscita curated by Christian Caliandro. The book originated from a dialogue in late July 2022 with Caliandro during a residency in Montelupo Fiorentino, where Bellantoni performed in 45°C heat in a dried riverbed. The work functions as an auto-ethnography, weaving together life and art through six chapters interspersed with poetic interludes. Bellantoni, born in 1975, lives and works in Rome and teaches at the Accademia di Belle Arti dell'Aquila. She holds a degree in Contemporary Art History and an MA in Visual Art from WCA University of London (2007). The book explores her artistic practice over twenty years, addressing questions of vocation, methodology, and survival as a mid-career artist. It includes personal memories, reflections on her creative process, and a 'geo-poetic map' of places from her childhood to the present.
