Elena Adamou's 'Iconographies' at primopiano, Montesilvano, Elevates Wild Plants to Sacred Subjects

exhibition · 2026-08-10

In a house-turned-exhibition-space in Montesilvano, Italy, Elena Adamou presents 'Iconographies; Tiny Resistance, Crevices and Other Creatures,' a solo show that repositions wild Mediterranean plants from background to subject. The exhibition, curated by Martina Marini Misterioso and Halime Eleni Özdemir di Larusso, runs from 18 to 26 June 2026 at primopiano (Via Gabriele D'Annunzio 33). Adamou, born in Nicosia, Cyprus in 1991, developed the project during the 2025 ECOSCAPES residency in Nicosia, organized by Magnus Tempus 360°, and the show extends that research. The works—created through embroidery, photography, and site-specific installations—depict plants like Astragalus Macrocarpus subsp. Lefkarensis, Centaurea Akamantis, Scilla Morrisii, and Erysimum Kykkoticum, giving them a sacred, regal air. A critical essay by Erica Romano, titled 'In the Cracks of Existence,' accompanies the exhibition. Photography is by Giacomo Alberico and Leo Margiotti. The show is presented by primopiano and Magnus Tempus 360°.
