Elen Braga's First German Institutional Solo at NAK Aachen

Elen Braga's solo exhibition 'Ich bin wie du' at NAK Neuer Aachener Kunstverein in Aachen, Germany, runs from 3 May to 26 July 2026. Curated by Maurice Funken, the show is the Brazilian artist's first institutional solo in Germany. The title borrows from a 1976 disco song by Marianne Rosenberg about recognition and sameness. Braga, based in Antwerp, uses textiles, sculpture, video, and installation to explore migration, xenophobia, political violence, and the experience of learning a foreign language. Key works include the oversized fabric head 'Bababuá' in the foyer, the six-meter textile 'Amanhã será outro dia (Tomorrow will be another day)' dense with Brazilian political history, the staircase-like 'One to zen' teaching German numbers with double meanings, and the video 'Nevermore' shot in Death Valley. The exhibition opened amid a rightward political shift in Germany, which Braga references directly. The show is presented by NAK, a membership-based kunstverein known for supporting risk-taking work.
