Electropark 2019: Genoa's electronic music festival expands to Prè district

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

The eighth edition of Electropark, a Genoa-based electronic music festival founded by a group of under-30s, will take place from October 16 to 19, 2019. The festival aims to revitalize the city's territory through music, this year adding the historic Prè district to its venues alongside the 16th-century Villa del Principe and the early 20th-century Magazzini del Cotone in the Porto Antico, the latter redesigned by Renzo Piano. Opening night on October 16 at Villa del Principe's Galleria Aurea features the live audio/video premiere of Alberto Barberis' "Stradella Reloaded," an electronic reinterpretation of Baroque composer Alessandro Stradella, who was murdered in Genoa in 1682. On October 17, the Chiesa di San Giovanni in the Commenda di Pré hosts Japanese sound artist Tomoko Sauvage and French folk singer Emmanuelle Parrenin. A field recording workshop, the Genoa Soundscape Project, led by Rinaldo Marti in collaboration with CODE WAR and OpenVicoli, will explore the Prè, Maddalena, and Porto Antico areas, creating a sound map accessible via QR codes throughout the festival. The final two nights, October 18 and 19, at the Magazzini del Cotone feature international electronic acts including British artists Andrew Weatherall, Sculpture, and Giant Swan, and Americans Hieroglyphic Being and Rrose. On October 19, American composer William Basinski will perform "10000 Peacock Feathers in Foaming Acid" with visual artists Evelina Domnitch and Dmitry Gelfand.
