Electa launches Oilà book series on 20th-century women

publication · 2026-04-27

Electa has launched Oilà, a new book series dedicated to revolutionary women of the 20th century, curated by Chiara Alessi. The series debuted on International Women's Day 2023 with three titles: 'Il futuro, qualunque fosse' on Elsa Schiaparelli by Rossella Locatelli, 'Con amore e con amicizia' on Lisetta Carmi by Anna Toscano, and 'La vita è terribile e divertente' on Vanessa Bell by Luca Scarlini. The books are small-format, designed to be read aloud, with graphics by Studio Sonnoli. Alessi stated she chose authors whose perspectives she admired, and the stories had not been told in this way before. The series aims to free these women from canonical roles of daughter, wife, mother, or sister.
