Elbphilharmonie Hamburg Announces Star-Studded 10th Anniversary Season

The Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg will celebrate its tenth anniversary with a 2026/27 season centered on the 250th birthday of the United States. Seven top US orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic returning for the first time since 2017, will perform 13 concerts. General director Christoph Lieben-Seutter and chief conductor Alan Gilbert unveiled the program. The season honors composers John Adams (80th birthday, five concerts), Steve Reich, and John Coltrane. Missy Mazzoli is named "NDR Artist Across Ensembles." Violinist Augustin Hadelich and pianist Leif Ove Andsnes are artists-in-residence. Adams will conduct the London Symphony Orchestra in his works. Pianist Víkingur Ólafsson premieres Adams' "After the Fall." Choreographer Sasha Waltz returns for a curated weekend with her company, performing with cellist Anastasia Kobekina and to music by Diego Noguera and The Young Gods. Other highlights include a focus on Lebanese music, the Prometheus myth, the "Elbphilharmonie Visions" festival, and Beethoven's works performed by Quatuor Ébène, Igor Levit, and Lang Lang. The season also features Mariza, Angélique Kidjo, Youssou NDour, Sophie Hunger, Dianne Reeves, and the Punch Brothers. Special projects include Mieczysław Weinberg's opera "Die Passagierin" and Luigi Nono's "Prometeo." Subscriptions are available now; single tickets go on sale May 19.
