Elba Isola Musicale d’Europa 2022: New Orchestra, Pasolini Tribute, and Lionel Loueke

The 26th edition of Elba Isola Musicale d’Europa, an international classical and contemporary music festival, introduced the Elba Festival Orchestra, a 40-piece symphonic ensemble with musicians from 16 countries. The orchestra, founded by artistic director George Edelman, aims to combine established soloists with emerging talents from European conservatories. Concerts were held at Torre del Martello, Villa Romana della Linguella, and the Gulf of Portoferraio. Highlights included a multidisciplinary tribute to Pier Paolo Pasolini on his centenary, featuring the Coro Friuli Venezia Giulia and a commissioned piece by composer Virginia Guastella. Jazz guitarist Lionel Loueke, a protégé of Herbie Hancock, performed at Cinema Teatro Flamingo in Capoliveri, presenting tracks from his album HH. The festival continues its tradition of blending music, nature, and historical heritage.
