Elaine Wynn and Jerold Perenchio donate $75 million to LACMA, launch $600 million campaign
Elaine Wynn and Jerold Perenchio have pledged $75 million to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the largest single donation in the museum's history. The gift is part of a $600 million fundraising campaign to build a new complex designed by Swiss architect Peter Zumthor. The project includes a nearly 4,000-square-meter black building that will serve as both a bridge and a museum on Wilshire Boulevard, replacing four of the museum's seven existing buildings. Perenchio, former chairman of Univision, typically makes anonymous philanthropic contributions but has chosen to go public this time to act as a public advocate for the campaign. The City of Los Angeles has allocated $125 million, bringing the total raised to $275 million. LACMA director Michael Govan expressed optimism about reaching the $600 million goal. Construction is slated to begin in 2018 and finish in 2023.
