El Deportivo Gym by TEC Taller EC in Cumbayá

El Deportivo, a gymnasium designed by TEC Taller EC, has been completed in Cumbayá, a valley near Quito, Ecuador. The project was curated by Paula Pintos, with architects Pablo Castro Guijarro and Roberto Morales Guijarro in charge, and design team member Daniela Veintimilla. Technical support was provided by Nicolas Guijarro. The building covers 225 square meters and was completed in 2024. Photographs were taken by Paolo Caicedo. Located at 2,400 meters above sea level, the design responds to equatorial conditions such as vertical sun and significant diurnal temperature variations. The architects emphasize the void—the empty space that occupies everything—as the first element that inevitably remains in memory.
