El Amor [no] Nos Destruirá: 30+ artists explore love in the digital age at Hospedería Fonseca

Curated by Javier Panera, the exhibition 'El Amor [no] Nos Destruirá' at Hospedería Fonseca in Salamanca brings together over thirty national and international artists including Marina Abramovic, Kaoru Katayama, Elena del Rivero, Pepe Espaliú, and Juan Hidalgo. The title references Joy Division's 1980 song. The show features more than sixty works across various media, occupying all exhibition spaces. It examines love and desire as conflict and escape in an era of social media, post-truth, and neoliberal cultural capitalism. The curatorial framework draws on Roland Barthes' 'Fragments d'un discours amoureux' and Eva Illouz's 'The End of Love'. Barthes' concept of being trapped in an insufficient language and Illouz's 'frozen intimacies' and 'emotional capitalism' inform the selection. The exhibition runs until May 17, 2026, with a possible extension to mid-June. Participating artists include Adel Abidin, Carlos Aires, Bill Henson, Janine Antoni, Mona Hatoum, Yoko Ono, Andy Warhol, and many others.
