Eight injured in Modena car ramming, driver arrested
Eight people were injured on Saturday when a car drove into pedestrians in the center of Modena, Italy. Police arrested the driver, a man in his thirties, who is an Italian national born in Bergamo of North African origin and a resident of the Modena area. Four of the injured are in serious condition. Mayor Massimo Mezzetti stated the driver deliberately drove onto the sidewalk, hit several people, crashed into a shop window, then got out and brandished a knife. One man who tried to stop the driver suffered minor injuries. Authorities confirmed there is no further danger.
