Eight Asian Artists Explore Love, Loss, and Life's Fragility in Perth Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-24

The Art Gallery of Western Australia in Perth presents 'I have not loved (enough or worked)', an exhibition featuring eight Asian artists who examine love, loss, and the human condition through a bittersweet lens. The title is adapted from a line in Canadian poet Lisa Robertson's 'Face/' (2010). Tao Hui's video installation 'Hello, Finale!' (2017) uses nine screens showing characters on the phone, based on his life in China and news reports. Lieko Shiga's 'Blind Date' (2009) captures couples on motorbikes in Bangkok, while Pixy Liao's 'Experimental Relationship' (2007–) subverts gender roles with her younger boyfriend. Lin Zhipeng (No. 233) documents Chinese youth sexuality in the 1990s. Hai-Hsin Huang's painting 'The Future is Hot #6' (2021) depicts environmental denial. Rinko Kawauchi's 'Cui Cui' (2005) spans 13 years of family life. Daisuke Kosugi's 'A False Weight' (2019) follows a retired architect with muscle degeneration, based on his father. The exhibition runs from 18 November 2022 to 23 April 2023.
