EgoZero Pontormo Lab Opens in Empoli as New Arts Hub
On September 7, 2024, EgoZero Pontormo Lab will open in Empoli, Italy, in the former private studio of artist Federico Bucalossi. The space aims to foster cross-disciplinary experimentation and cultural aggregation. The name references the death of the ego and the proximity to the birthplace of Jacopo Carucci (Pontormo, 1494–1557). Inaugural works by Barbara Fluvi (Empoli, 1964), Luca Matti (Florence, 1964), and Marco Raffaele (Turin, 1965) will be on display, alongside sound environments by Spartaco Cortesi. A live performance of the sound pieces is scheduled for 7:30 PM during the vernissage. Fluvi's work explores intimate daily life, Raffaele's uses multiple media to depict landscape as identity, and Matti's references Piranesian memories and industrial architecture. Cortesi's electronic textures draw from kraut-rock and industrial music.
