Eggshell Lamp Wins Australian Furniture Design Award
Joanne Odisho, a furniture designer from Melbourne, has been awarded the Australian Furniture Design award for her innovative Mod-u lamps, crafted from eggshells sourced from local cafes. These lamps feature adjustable blocks reminiscent of Jenga, created from a blend of crushed eggshells and a biodegradable biopolymer. Odisho began exploring this material in 2022 during a project at RMIT, drawing inspiration from Materiom. The $20,000 award is presented by Stylecraft in partnership with the National Gallery of Victoria, coinciding with Melbourne Design Week. Tony Russell, the jury chair, commended the lamps for their tactile nature and adaptability. Odisho will work with Stylecraft to bring these designs to market.
