Effimera Returns to Modena with Immersive Installations by Three Italian Artists
The second edition of Effimera, curated by Fulvio Chimento and Luca Panaro, opens in Modena with site-specific works by Carlo Bernardini (b. 1966, Viterbo), Sarah Ciracì (b. 1972, Grottaglie), and Roberto Pugliese (b. 1982, Naples). The exhibition, subtitled with a sensory focus, engages sight and hearing through light, sound, and vision. Bernardini presents a fiber-optic light installation that interacts with the architecture, creating geometric forms. Ciracì contributes a "digital fresco"—a video work featuring spaceships, stars, and photographs of Earth. Pugliese's sound installation, Emergenze acustiche (2013), uses the acoustic resonances of the room to generate sounds. The curators highlight how these works reflect on immateriality, technology, and communication in contemporary art, while also acknowledging influences from historic movements like Programmed Art, Kinetic Art, and artists such as Lucio Fontana and Gianni Colombo. The exhibition runs in three rooms, each emphasizing a deep relationship with space—whether architectural, acoustic, or cosmic. The previous edition focused on the web as a tool for artistic knowledge.
