EFA Residency Gives NYC Arts Workers Studio Time
From August 14 to 29, 2010, New York City was the site of a unique residency organized by the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts (EFA) for individual artists who juggle various jobs. Eight selected participants, including Tova Carlin, Sean Carroll, and Beatrice Wolert, were nominated by institutions such as NYFA and New York City Opera. This program provided essential studio space, opportunities for community interactions, and pivotal discussions. Participants explored various artistic techniques, with Wolert focusing on the theme of domesticity through cake art, while Amber Hawk Swanson produced endurance-based video art inspired by fitness culture. Follow-up initiatives are set for the upcoming year.
