Eduardo Santiere's First New York Solo Exhibition 'Draw In' at Haim Chanin Fine Arts

Argentine artist Eduardo Santiere presented his inaugural New York solo exhibition titled 'Draw In' at Haim Chanin Fine Arts from February 22 to April 26, 2008. The show featured around twenty works on paper created with pencil, colored pencil, and surface scratches that generate a sense of immediacy. Santiere, who resides in Buenos Aires but earned an MFA from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 2003, previously participated in a group selection at New York's Drawing Center. His drawings employ a delicate, intricate visual language where knobs and knots of color float in empty spaces, evoking cosmic imagery like planets and galaxies while also suggesting urban maps or microscopic forms. Specific works included 'Otro fragmento del futuro' (2007) with blue, green, and yellow globules that connect and disperse, and 'Bio-construction 5' (2008) whose patterns resemble woven cloth with criss-crossing lines. 'Boom' (2007), a vertical piece measuring 30 1/8 by 22 1/4 inches, suggests star constellations or galactic explosions from a distance. The artist's abstract systems create random, postmodern effects without a central organizing principle, compelling viewers to extract meaning from stylistic extravagance. Santiere's work builds grand, sublime visions from fragmented color elements, blending personal intimacy with cosmic scale.
