Eduardo Kobra's Mural for Paolo Rossi Unveiled in Vicenza

artist · 2026-04-26

Brazilian street artist Eduardo Kobra has completed a large-scale mural dedicated to Italian footballer Paolo Rossi in Vicenza, Italy. The mural, commissioned by cultural association Wallabe, is painted on the Torre Everest, a 17-story building that is a symbol of the city and its 1950s economic boom. Rossi, who led Italy to win the 1982 World Cup and played for Vicenza earlier in his career, is depicted in Kobra's signature kaleidoscopic style. The project was funded through crowdfunding and a significant contribution from Gruppo Hera, with artistic direction by Federica Sansoni. Kobra, known for his colorful portraits of historical figures, chose to honor Rossi to close a symbolic circle: Rossi scored three goals against Brazil in the 1982 World Cup match known as the 'Tragedy of Sarrià,' eliminating the Brazilian team. Kobra, as a Brazilian, pays tribute to Rossi's sportsmanship and humility. The mural aims to convey values of humility, dedication, and resilience. Kobra has created over 50 murals in the United States alone, including one at the UN headquarters, and has worked in about 30 countries. He has previously painted murals in Italy, including one of Galileo Galilei near Keith Haring's 'Tuttomondo' in Pisa. Kobra, who has Italian ancestry, plans to open a studio in Italy and make it his European base.
