Eduardo Kobra Paints David Mural on Marble Quarry Wall in Carrara

artist · 2026-05-05

Brazilian street artist Eduardo Kobra has created a mural of Michelangelo's David on a marble wall in the Gualtiero Corsi quarry in the Apuan Alps near Carrara, Italy. The work, titled 'David,' was executed at an altitude of over 800 meters using Kobra's signature kaleidoscopic colors—reds, yellows, greens, blues—balanced with black and white to highlight the marble surface. The project was a collaboration with the Municipality of Massa for the TV series 'Muro,' curated by David Diavù Vecchiato and produced by Level 33 exclusively for Sky Arte HD. Each episode features an artist, a location, a story, and a new public artwork. The mural is accessible on foot from Colonnata or Bedizzano. Vecchiato noted that the quarry management is considering organizing guided tours, and there is a proposal to build a funicular from the town to the mountain top to facilitate visits and showcase both the artwork and the quarrying work.
