Edoardo Tresoldi's 'Monumento' Installation at Venice's Procuratie Vecchie

Italian artist Edoardo Tresoldi has unveiled a new architectural installation titled 'Monumento' inside the Procuratie Vecchie in Venice, a complex recently restored by David Chipperfield. The installation consists of a column in the stairwell, around which the staircase spirals. On the capital, Tresoldi placed a table and chairs, symbols of dialogue and conviviality. The column is adorned with glass elements, hand-cut from car windshields, that cascade downward like curls, capturing light in the dark space. Tresoldi, born in Milan in 1987 and based in Rome, is known for his large-scale wire mesh installations that blend with natural surroundings. He gained public recognition in 2013 with his intervention at the archaeological excavation of the Basilica of Siponto. Speaking about the work, Tresoldi noted that the polyphony of the Venice Biennale, during which the installation opened, enriches its meaning. He also discussed the influence of current events, such as the war in Ukraine, on the concept of the monument. The artist has previously created installations for Coachella and Arte Sella, and is preparing a public work for Bari to be inaugurated in two years. The interview was conducted by Giorgia Basili.
