Edoardo Tresoldi installs 46 metal columns on Reggio Calabria waterfront
Edoardo Tresoldi, known for his transparent wire-mesh architectures that reconstruct lost ancient masterpieces, has created a new permanent public art installation in Italy. Titled "Opera," the work consists of 46 classical columns made of metal mesh, each reaching 8 meters in height, installed on the Falcomatà waterfront in Reggio Calabria. The installation is situated in a 2,500-square-meter park at the end of Via Giunchi, near the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria, home to the famous Riace Bronzes. Commissioned by the Municipality and the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria, "Opera" will be inaugurated on September 12 and 13 with free events featuring musician Teho Teardo and poet Franco Arminio. Tresoldi stated that the work aims to highlight the character of the place through construction, offering a further interpretation of the site, and to create a place of contemplation while investigating the role of public art today. The artist previously created installations in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Dubai, Coachella, Paris, and Arte Sella. Mayor Giuseppe Falcomatà praised Tresoldi as one of the most internationally esteemed creators, noting that the work provides a great showcase for the city, blending modern perspective with classical style.
