Edoardo Piermattei's 'Patroni' at Thomas Brambilla Gallery
The exhibition 'Patroni' by Edoardo Piermattei (born 1992 in Marche, Italy) opened at Galleria Thomas Brambilla in Bergamo. The show explores the artist's engagement with Italy's historical and cultural references, including Giotto, Assisi, basilicas, and altarpieces. Piermattei reproduces these environments and architectures on panels and as architectural models, using a balanced and delicate palette and technique. A central piece, a large reproduction of a medieval ciborium, invites viewers to pass under it but fails to fully convey the intended sense of devotion and majesty. However, a series of architectural works and the large altarpiece succeed in creating an evocative homage. The altarpiece draws inspiration from Baciccio's fresco 'Trionfo nel nome di Gesù' in the Church of the Gesù in Rome, rendered with vibrant strokes of colored cement. The exhibition is reviewed by Astrid Serughetti.
