Edoardo Montaina's 'Visions' for Gallerie d'Italia: A Photographic Dialogue with Canova

Edoardo Montaina, an Italian photographer known for his industrial and institutional work, has created 'Visions,' a photographic project for Gallerie d'Italia in Milan. The project is a 'show within a show' complementing the exhibition 'Canova | Thorvaldsen. The Birth of Modern Sculpture.' Montaina's photographs reinterpret Canova's sculptures, such as the Three Graces and Paolina Borghese, using color and abstraction to evoke emotion beyond the visible. The initiative was conceived by Michele Coppola, Director of Art, Culture, and Historical Heritage at Intesa Sanpaolo. Montaina's career spans three decades, with notable projects including 'Invito al Quirinale' (2002) for President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, a series on Roberto Capucci's fashion exhibited in Beijing, and 'The New Panama Canal' (2017) published by Rizzoli. His experimental series 'The delicate hints of our life' was shown at MAXXI Rome. Montaina also buried slides for 30 years to create a series on time. The 'Visions' project is published on Gallerie d'Italia and Intesa Sanpaolo's digital platforms.
