Edoardo Montaina's 'Building Sights' Documents Global Infrastructure

Photographer Edoardo Montaina (La Spezia, 1954) has published a new book titled 'Building Sights. A Journey Through Contemporary Infrastructure' with Rizzoli (New York, 2022). The large-format volume features texts by Nicola Davide Angerame and Nicola La Cecla, and is divided into chapters: Visioni, Città, Natura, Volti, Geometrie, Velocità, Opere, Tracce. The project was supported by Webuild's Corporate Identity and Communication Department, with a contribution from CEO Pietro Salini. Montaina's work explores human intervention in nature, focusing on construction sites rather than finished architecture. The book contains 200 images capturing stadiums, dams, canals, viaducts, tunnels, metro lines, and railway stations in their embryonic state. Montaina has previously documented sites including the Quirinale in Rome, and more recently Beijing, Panama, and Kuwait. Angerame describes Montaina as an 'enchanted reporter' who witnesses the industrious life of construction sites. The photographs employ dramatic lighting and color, evoking Baroque spectacle to inspire wonder.
