Edoardo Leo's documentary 'Luigi Proietti detto Gigi' hits Italian cinemas

other · 2026-04-27

From March 3 to 9, 2022, Nexo Digital releases the documentary 'Luigi Proietti detto Gigi' directed by Edoardo Leo, a former student and close friend of the late Italian entertainer Gigi Proietti. The film, premiered at the last Festa del Cinema di Roma, explores Proietti's artistic and personal life through interviews with colleagues and friends including Renzo Arbore, Paola Cortellesi, Fiorello, Alessandro Gassmann, Marco Giallini, and Nicola Piovani. Leo began the project over three years ago, initially intending to document Proietti's groundbreaking theatrical work 'A me gli occhi, please'. He recorded dozens of hours of material during rehearsals, backstage, and a lengthy interview at the Globe Theatre, which became Proietti's last. After Proietti's sudden death, Leo shifted focus to uncover the man behind the performer, examining an 80-year career that blended comedy and poetry. The documentary is produced by Fulvio, Federica, and Paola Lucisano with Paola Ferrari and Edoardo Leo.
