Edoardo Di Mauro, former director of Accademia Albertina, dies at 64

Edoardo Di Mauro, an influential figure in Turin's contemporary art community, passed away at the age of 64 following a short illness. He was born in 1960 to an Italo-Greek family in Alexandria, Egypt, and relocated to Italy in 1957. Di Mauro obtained a degree in Literature and was active in the countercultural movements of the 1970s. He served as a music critic, writer, and co-artistic director at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Torino (GAM) from April 1994 until February 1997. For 25 years, he led the MAU – Museo d'Arte Urbana di Torino and taught at the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti di Torino, where he became Director in 2020. He authored over 800 essays and championed the idea of "art as a means of education and expression."
