Edoardo Di Mauro Appointed Director of Accademia Albertina di Torino

Edoardo Di Mauro, an art historian and former director of MAU – Museo d’Arte Urbana, has been appointed director of the Accademia Albertina di Torino, replacing Salvo Bitonti. The appointment was formalized on February 21, 2020, when Italy's Minister of University and Research, Gaetano Manfredi, signed the decree. Laura Valle, an artist and painting professor, was named vice director. Di Mauro, born in Turin in 1960 to an Italo-Greek family from Alexandria, Egypt, brings extensive experience, including co-directorship of the Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Torino (1994–1997) and 25 years leading MAU. He has served at the Accademia for 19 years as teacher and vice director. In an interview, Di Mauro described his appointment as arriving during the Covid-19 crisis, with exams and lessons moved online. He hopes the post-pandemic period will resolve issues in the AFAM sector and implement full telematization. He and Valle were elected under the slogan 'continuity in difference,' building on Bitonti's advances in teaching and international networks. Plans include completing the renovation of the Rotonda del Talucchi, expanding teaching spaces possibly using the ex-Cavallerizza with the Conservatory, and establishing a detached branch in Vercelli.
