Edoardo Bonaspetti on Mousse Magazine's Decade, Publishing, and Agency Work

Edoardo Bonaspetti, founder of Mousse Magazine, reflects on the project's origins in 2006 during a show titled Untitled in Milan, which he co-curated. The free press model was chosen for its low costs and quick market entry, following predecessors like Nero and Exibart. Bonaspetti distinguishes Mousse from Flash Art, citing different distribution and editorial focus on contemporary art. Mousse has expanded into a publishing house and an agency, working with miart, Independent, and the Biennale de l'Image en Mouvement in Geneva. The agency also handles visual identity for pavilions at the Venice Biennale. Bonaspetti discusses the role of art magazines today, emphasizing that they follow artists' research. He notes the abundance of art magazines in Italy as a historical anomaly but a healthy competition. He cites inspirations including Artforum, Parkett, Purple, Afterall, and Avalanche. Bonaspetti also serves as artistic director at Triennale Milano, curating shows like Marc Camille Chaimowicz, Jos de Gruyter & Harald Thys, Ben Rivers, and Christopher Williams.
