Editorial Reflects on Pandemic Isolation and Environmental Crisis, Announces 6th International Seminar

Since March 2020, the closure of daily meeting spaces coincided with intensified crimes of omission and attacks on life against nature and marginalized groups in Brazil and globally. The editorial positions art as a crucial tool for reflection against fear and violence, citing the cover work 'Trópicos malditos, gozosos e devotos 7, 2020' by Rivane Neuenschwander. In May, the Goethe-Institut partnered to hold the 6th International Seminar, focusing on defending humanity and nature. The virtual meeting gathered artists, philosophers, scientists, environmental leaders, and curators. Indigenous activist and artist Naiara Tukano emphasized the interconnectedness of Earth, stating, 'we are nature.' Researcher and Mercosur Biennial 12 curator Andrea Giunta noted art's ability to archive experiences from different times to ask present questions. The edition features articles showing artists and curators in dialogue with their surroundings, reflecting an immersion in their time. The publication arte!brasileiros received the 2019 Antônio Bento Award from ABCA as the best media vehicle for art and culture diffusion.
