Edith Derdyk's PROTOLIVRO exhibition explores line obsession at Casa de Cultura do Parque

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Edith Derdyk inaugurated the PROTOLIVRO exhibition at Casa de Cultura do Parque in São Paulo, presenting a collection of old and new works centered on her enduring fascination with lines. The show includes pieces made from primary materials like thread, bakery roll paper, and tapestry needles from Thailand, creating works of remarkable lightness. One installation, Pulmão, features needles and threads weaving an aerial path that shifts with daylight, described as a breathing space in a bright room. The exhibition also presents an imagined 'previous book'—cut, illegible, transformed into sculpture with screws, referencing an unfinished, infinite universal book. Curator Fabio Morais notes that Derdyk dismantles books and arranges fragments into non-functional mechanisms, activating a fabulatory and visual operation that subverts standardized graphic production chains. A course titled 'Linhas de horizonte: a escrita de uma paisagem' will be held on September 11, 14, 18, and 21. The exhibition runs until October 13, with hours from 11am to 7pm Wednesday to Friday and 10am to 6pm Saturday and Sunday.
