Edible Orchestra brings vegetable instruments to Matera streets

The Edible Orchestra initiative brought the Vienna-based Vegetable Orchestra to the streets of Matera, Italy, as part of the Matera 2019 European Capital of Culture program. The ensemble's instruments are made from seasonal fruits and vegetables sourced from the local market. Performances also featured food performances by Nick Difino and Daniele De Michele (known as Don Pasta), who engaged with local residents by drawing on Lucanian culinary traditions. The event combined music, tools, and food to create installations and performative moments, addressing food emergency issues.
