Ed Atkins and Liisa Lounila Dual Exhibitions at Kiasma Museum Helsinki
Kiasma Museum in Helsinki presents two solo exhibitions: Liisa Lounila's 'Shadow Zone' (until July 26, 2020) and Ed Atkins' 'Live White Slime' (until August 23, 2020). Lounila's show uses installations, video, and photography to explore nature's beauty and fragility, from Arizona deserts to Finnish taiga and suburban gardens, highlighting environmental emergencies with an installation made from New Yorkers' picnic trash coated in palladium paint. Atkins' exhibition focuses on the fraught relationship between identity and technology, featuring the video 'Safe Conduct' that parodies airport security protocols to the sound of Ravel's Bolero, and incorporates references to Samuel Beckett, Pina Bausch, and John Lennon. The shows were reviewed by Niccolò Lucarelli on Artribune.
