Echi d'acqua: five sound installations in Matera's underground cistern

exhibition · 2026-04-27

As part of Matera European Capital of Culture 2019, the association LOXOSconcept and Fondazione Matera Basilicata 2019 present the sound work Echi d'acqua, part of the IN ViTRØ – artificial sonification project. The installations opened on December 14, 2019 and run until January 19, 2020, realized in the Palombaro Lungo of Matera by CRM – Centro Ricerche Musicali. Using the acoustic and architectural features of the famous underground cistern, five artistic, visual, and musical paths have been created. Echi d'acqua is curated by composers Michelangelo Lupone and Laura Bianchini, with architect Emanuela Mentuccia handling the plastic and lighting environments. This is the final part of the IN ViTRØ project, which unfolded throughout 2019 with the goal of bringing sound experimentation to Matera and other locations in Basilicata.
