EAV Parque Lage Opens Forest Residency Program for Artist-Critic Duos

institutional · 2026-04-23

The Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage (EAV Parque Lage) in Rio de Janeiro has launched its Residências na Floresta program for 2022. Inspired by Oswald de Andrade's 1924 Manifesto da Poesia Pau-Brasil, the initiative will select two duos, each comprising an artist and an art critic, for three-month collaborative residencies in the Floresta Nacional da Tijuca. Each selected team will receive a grant of R$ 20,000 to cover research, production of texts, photos, and videos, and project maintenance. The program, which blurs boundaries between nature and culture, does not require the creation of a final artwork, instead prioritizing an expanded research process. Monthly critical reports in text and images will be published on EAV's digital channels, culminating in a public seminar presentation. Applications are open until April 20, with results announced on April 28. The program's location within Parque Lage, part of the world's largest urban forest, directly connects to its ecological and artistic inquiries, further informed by the ideas of Ailton Krenak.
