Eataly salad sales fund restoration of Palazzo Ducale portal in Venice

cultural-heritage · 2026-05-05

The restoration of a 16th-century portal at Palazzo Ducale in Venice has been completed, funded by sales of Gli Orti di Venezia salads at Eataly. The five-month project cleaned the Istrian stone high-reliefs depicting Venetian history, using chemical methods, mortar repairs, and a protective wax finish. Paolo Tamai, founder of Gli Orti di Venezia, praised the public-private collaboration with Eataly. The portal leads to the Atrio Quadrato, a vestibule with a gilded ceiling featuring Tintoretto paintings. The work was supervised by MUVE's Technical Service and Maintenance department.
