Eataly funds Leonardo's Last Supper restoration in Milan
Oscar Farinetti and Eataly contributed €700,000 to complete the restoration of the HVAC system at the Cenacolo Vinciano in Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan, home to Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper. The work, promised in early 2017, was finished within two years. Chiara Rostagno, Director of the Cenacolo Vinciano, oversaw the project alongside Stefano L'Occaso, Director of the Polo Museale Lombardo, and fundraiser Alessandra Pellegrini of Aragorn srl. The intervention, titled "Una cena così non la puoi perdere," increased the refectory's capacity from 30 to 35 visitors every 15 minutes, with plans to reach 40 by 2021. A new air filtration unit protects the 3,500 cubic meters of air, improving conservation against particulate matter and seismic risks. Farinetti praised the public administration as "fast, honest, healthy, and clever." Rostagno emphasized trust and technological innovation as the project's foundation, noting the museum is a "great showcase" requiring delicate air treatment to balance preservation and public access. The structural reinforcement for the new air handling unit is hidden behind a small grille.
