Eastcontemporary Opens in Milan as Non-Profit for Central and Eastern European Art

Eastcontemporary, a non-profit organization dedicated to art and culture from Central and Eastern Europe, has opened in Milan. Founded by Agnieszka Fąferek (also director) and Julia Korzycka, the space aims to challenge canonical narratives and foster dialogue between Eastern and Western artistic communities. Its inaugural exhibition, "The Future in Reverse," features Polish artists Agata Ingarden and Agnieszka Polska, exploring time through past and future mythologies. The exhibition is part of the 2020-2021 program "Odds Against Tomorrow," which examines the concept of the future through thematic shows, meetings, and a publication. Eastcontemporary collaborates with the Polish Consulate in Milan, the Polish Institute in Rome, and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. The founders were inspired by models such as Plato Ostrava and Futura in Prague, as well as Anglo-Saxon examples. The space also plans to engage the local community through critical thinking events and to build transnational synergies with collectors, gallerists, and other professionals.
