Earthlicker at Nature of Things: Khansefid and Bargers on Identity

The exhibition titled 'Earthlicker' at Nature of Things in Dallas runs until August 15 and showcases the works of Ellen Khansefid and Clint Bargers. Located at the foot of the stairs leading to a second-floor apartment in Deep Ellum, the display features four of Khansefid's black and yellow celebrity portraits. Ascending to the gallery with exposed brick, visitors will find additional paintings and wall sculptures integrated with the space's architecture. Khansefid's art emphasizes direct eye contact with recognizable figures like Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears, Tina Turner, and Lana Del Rey. Bargers presents raw ceramic pieces, including 'Bulge' and 'Down the Mountain,' the latter illustrating four faceless men bound together, symbolizing control. Khansefid’s 'Skin Shedder' depicts a woman shedding her skin to reveal a luminous blue figure, delving into themes of identity and transformation. The exhibition juxtaposes Khansefid's expressive faces with Bargers' marked forms, exploring identity through revelation and imposition.
