Earth Foundation opens new photography space in Bologna with Magnum Photos

The Earth Foundation (Fondazione Earth, Eataly Art House) has inaugurated a new exhibition space in Bologna, inside the Grand Tour Italia complex, a format created by Oscar Farinetti. The inaugural show is 'Photo&Food', a photography exhibition exploring food through the lens of Magnum Photos authors, curated by Walter Guadagnini. The exhibition was previously staged in Verona in 2023 and has been adapted for the new location. It features over 80 photographs from the post-war period to the present, arranged chronologically across three circular rooms. The show opens with Werner Bischof's 1945 images of Swiss refugees' meals after WWII, and David Seymour's photos of war orphans in Greece. It progresses through the 1950s with relaxed food culture scenes, the 1960s with stars and food (Marilyn Monroe by Philippe Halsman, the Beatles by David Hurn, Muhammad Ali by Thomas Hoepker), and sections on the food supply chain (Eve Arnold, Ferdinando Scianna, Paolo Pellegrin, Alex Majoli), extreme food (Martin Parr), and sacred traditions (Abbas Attar, Raghu Rai, Jonas Bendiksen, Guy Le Querrec, Nanna Heitmann). A distinctive feature of Earth is its art market: visitors can purchase posters reproducing Magnum photographs, while original prints are available only in Verona. The foundation was established in 2022 inside Eataly Verona, with a partnership with Magnum Photos, and also presents historical artist shows (next: Fortunato Depero opening September 25).
