Eadweard Muybridge's Photographic Experiments on Display in Milan
The Galleria delle Stelline in Milan hosts 'Muybridge Recall', an exhibition dedicated to Eadweard Muybridge (1830-1904), the pioneering 19th-century photographer known for his motion studies. Curated by Leo Guerra and Cristina Quadrio Curzio, the show recreates Muybridge's working method with a long wall covered in graph paper mimicking his setup of multiple cameras triggered by trip wires. Visitors can view lightbox reproductions of his sequential motion photographs and landscape images. The exhibition also features two docufilms by Paolo Gioli—'L’assassino nudo' and 'Film stenopeico'—who contributed an essay to the catalog. Muybridge, an English photographer who moved to America, had a tumultuous life with criminal undertones. His work laid the groundwork for cinema. The exhibition runs until October 1, 2016, at Galleria Gruppo Credito Valtellinese, Corso Magenta 59, Milan.
