EA House: A Family Home Carved into a Cliff in Australia's Southern Highlands

EA House, designed by Australian architecture firm Bokey Grant, is a family residence perched on a sensitive rock cliff face in the Southern Highlands of Australia. The project, completed in 2026, occupies a 170 square meter site that was previously deemed unbuildable, a leftover parcel from a suburban development planned before the discovery of a giant cliff and gorge. The architects describe the house as a simple elemental gesture, testing emotional responses on a difficult and unique site. Despite its simple form, the design addresses numerous overlapping constraints and challenges posed by the location. The house is curated by Miwa Negoro, with structural and civil engineering by Structure Consulting Engineers, and construction by Armstrong Residential & Owner.
