Duygu Demir Named Curator of NYUAD Art Gallery

Duygu Demir has been appointed as the new curator for The NYUAD Art Gallery at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD). She’s a well-respected art historian and curator, having been a founding member of SALT in Istanbul, where she helped curate numerous exhibitions and public events, along with editing two significant monographs. Her experience includes roles at İMALAT-HANE and artSümer in Bursa and Istanbul, respectively. Demir has also written for notable publications like Art Journal and contributed to the 58th Venice Biennale catalogue. In her new role, she’ll oversee exhibitions and programs, including the Curators Talk series. Maya Allison praised her knowledge of non-Western modernism. Additionally, she’s now a research assistant professor of art history, focusing on non-Western modernisms, just as the gallery approaches its tenth anniversary in 2024.
