Dutch Design Week 2018: North Brabant Named European Region of Gastronomy

North Brabant, the Dutch province encompassing Eindhoven and Den Bosch, has been named 'European Region Gastronomy' by IGCAT, coinciding with the 2018 Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. The region, birthplace of Vincent van Gogh and Hieronymus Bosch, blends food, design, and agrifood innovation. Eindhoven's Strijp-S district, a former Philips industrial site, now hosts Radio Royaal (a 1,300 sqm restaurant in the old machine hall), Europe's largest skate park Area 51, and the DUURZAME KOST City Farm using aquaponics. Sectie C offers co-working studios for designers and artisans; food artist Jasper Udink ten Cate (the Creative Chef) presented seasonal vegetable dishes there. Tellurico and Molto Molto Project organized 'The Biggest Living Room in The Netherlands' in Frank Van Klingeren's building, where nine designers reinterpreted the architectural pillar. In Den Bosch, the Stedelijk Museum's-Hertogenbosch rebranded as Design Museum, with an expansion by Bierman Henket (2012) and interiors by the Campana brothers. The city also hosts Cor Unum ceramics studio, collaborating with Alessandro Mendini, Jasper Morrison, MVRDV, and Ron Arad. The Werkwarenhuis Social Label ('Pink Factory'), opened in 2014, is a former industrial complex turned sustainable design collective space.
